‘First they brought two helicopters, after they landed two more, unloaded troops and went away. But it was listened that they launched two bombs there down in Santa Rosa, a place near here. It was morning when they began the fights and at the lunch time they still on it. Three persons of the community sat outside their house taking lunch. The army came shooting, the three young men ran and took refuge in the kitchen, they closed the door, but three soldiers went behind them and shot to the kitchen’s door. One of the soldiers kicked the door and said: Shit! The fucked! The three brothers remained there, together, dead.’

The 85 percent of those who have been arrested by the Police of Cali with illegal gangs, are now on the streets, said Cali’s major Jorge Iván Ospina to Caracol Radio. He said also that the Democratic Security, the government’s program to reduce the influence of armed illegal groups like paramilitaries and guerrilla in Colombia, must be done also in cities like Cali that is a victim of gangs and criminality.

Government rejects Farc proposal to Unasur

The proposal of the FARC guerrilla to the Union of South American Nations, UNASUR, to offer a dialog of peace was rejected by president Juan Manuel Santos. The communication of the insurgent group was published by Annacol, the official website of the armed group, where it is said that the Colombian government ‘closed any door to dialogue with the insurgency spurred on by the mirage of a military victory and Washington’s interference.’ Santos answered that the government wants that the guerrilla releases the hostages. The president said also that there is not the need of mediators.

New incident of gangs in Medellín

A new terrorist attack of gangs in Medellín this weekend, this time in the easter barrio of Manrique Santa Inés, Northeast Commune. Gangs attacked during the night of Friday some houses of the barrio. There were also disturbances in the 13th Commune’s  Barrio Juan XIII, reported the Police of Medellín. Major Alonso Salazar said that it is the intention of the criminals to involve civilians in the conflict. The barrio was militarized by army and police and a man was killed in clashes. The man was identified as alias El Viejo (The Elder) and he was the chief of Los Balcones, a criminal terrorist gang heavy involved with mafia and murders. The criminal has been arrested several times, but he was always released without any prosecutions, although several evidences to prove his participation in terrorism and drug trafficking.

It seems that the fiery speeches of some weeks ago are now history. Traders, especially from Colombia, are optimistic, while Colombian congressmen recommend prudence. Last week both governments declared that the two South American countries are again in full diplomatic and political relations. The words of president Hugo Chávez changed drastically to a more friendly speech, even saying that he does not matter if the rightist governs Colombia.

The military agreement that would allow US to install military bases in Colombia to fight drug trafficking and terrorism, was declared unconstitutional by the Court and it must be studied by the Congress. The government considered that the agreement should not need the review of the Congress, because, according with its position, it was an extension of a previous military agreement with Washington dated 1974.

A Venezuelan court for the protection of rights of children and youth, prohibited newspapers to publish photos of violence and blood. The law was ruled in a first moment for El Nacional newspaper after it published a picture of the Morgue of Caracas to talk about the numbers of murders in the city. The journal that is considered in the opposition to the government, was ordered to avoid the publication of photos that can ‘infringe the psychological and moral integrity of boys, girls and teenagers.‘ Caracas is considered so far one of the most violent cities of the world with an alarming increase of criminality, a fact that the newspaper was denouncing through the picture.

Fidel Castro Vs Álvaro Uribe

The critics of Fidel Castro to the government of ex-president Álvaro Uribe where immediately answered by the Colombian politician. Castro, who has currently a high cover by the media of his country, criticized the decision of the UN to delegate Álvaro Uribe in the commission to investigate the Freedom Flotilla incident. The Cuban ex-president said that it is a ‘blunder‘ such election because Uribe ‘is accused of crimes of war‘ and that Ban Ki-moon was following ‘superior orders‘. Castro met recently Colombian senator Piedad Córdoba, one of the main political opponents to Uribe.

The president of the Colombian Congress, Armando Benedetti, visited Venezuela with the intention to improve the diplomatic and political relations after the meeting of presidents Hugo Chávez and Juan Manuel Santos. Benedetti evaluated his meetings as positive. President Chávez reiterated his compromise of fighting terrorism and the respect for the sovereignty of the countries, said the senator.

The Police arrested wanted Colombian terrorist

The Colombian Police arrested Robinson Mejía Soto, alias La Cachona in Santa Marta, one of the top leaders of the organized crime in Medellín. Mejía Soto was one of the most wanted criminals in Colombia with a reward of 50 million pesos. He is the chief of La Galera, a criminal group of gangsters operating in the northeast barrios of Medellín and he is also pointed out as the armed faction of Valenciano, another well known drug traffic mafia dealer. The terrorist was brought by the authorities to Medellín where he is going to be prosecuted for murder, conspiracy, extortion and drug trafficking.
