Bogotá preparing its traditional light night

velasThe capital of Colombia will be full of light this coming December 7, the date that marks the beginning of the period previous to Christmas. The administration of the city intends to make this December a time of joy with different concerts like the Swing Choir to perform in the Simón Bolivar Square and the Legato Vocal Group in El Tunal. If you are a “Colombianist” (it is the discipline that study the Colombian culture) and want to get the Colombians naked in what they are, come in December and part of January and you will get many ideas and a lot of fun.

Saying in English or in other foreign language how is a December in Colombia is not easy. It is not easy because it has to see with the deepest part of the Colombian soul. Something like trying to explain what is natilla, buñuelos, villancicos and all those things so familiar to Colombians.

December is the month when these Latin American people lives at its full its traditions and the principles of its culture. Their culture of course has to see with the Spanish language, the Catholic influence in their customs, the way to be human in the tropic, the strong roots of family and an ancestral rural life that survives the urban contexts. 244 municipalities in high risk for elections 

03.08.2010 Ombudsman said that 244 municipalities of Colombia are at high risk for the coming elections. They could face constraint to the voter, disruption of the electoral contest, threats, restrictions on mobility and suffragan corruption, warns the office. The threats come from the Farc guerrillas and the new armed groups, especially in the northern coast and the southwest of Colombia. General Freddy Padilla declared to the press that the security forces will be alert in all the national territory to guarantee safety during the elections.
