But the first Colombian carnival of the year has its place in San Juan de Pasto, the southwestern capital of the Nariño State. Although this interview was done last November in preparation for the Carnival of Pasto, this interview shows a little how is Gabriela Días del Castillo, the Queen of the Carnival and how the Carnival itself is prepared.

Pasto (Ipiales Times, Nov. 7, 2007). It is already a tradition that every year in the Carnival of Black and White, the Carnival Corporation (Corpocarnaval) and the judge committee, select the Queen for the feast celebrations at the beginning of the year. In this occasion the selected one was Gabriela Díaz del Castillo, 20 years old, who represents the culture, tradition and games of the carnival in a national and international level. (more…)
