The 85 percent of those who have been arrested by the Police of Cali with illegal gangs, are now on the streets, said Cali’s major Jorge Iván Ospina to Caracol Radio. He said also that the Democratic Security, the government’s program to reduce the influence of armed illegal groups like paramilitaries and guerrilla in Colombia, must be done also in cities like Cali that is a victim of gangs and criminality.
Cali. The south-western state of Valle del Cauca is the leader in the group of Colombians migrating to countries like Spain and United States, according to a research of El Tiempo newspaper. The 25 percent of the Colombian migrants abroad come from this region, which capital is Cali, one of the main urban and industrial centers of the coffee nation. It is estimated that about 4 million Colombians are residing abroad.

Cali – Colombia. Wildfires blown in the northern hills nearby the city yesterday and the winds are stricken the region. The fire department of the city passed the night in the area trying to avoid the flames to reach houses in Chipichape and Golondrinas, while Montebello and Terrón Colorado hills were embraced by the conflagration.

The University of Cauca is working in the development of a disposal cup that is also biodegradable. The cup will be based on cassava starch. ´The idea is create disposable products that are also biodegradable,´ said Héctor Villada, scholar at the Faculty of Agronomy to El Tiempo newspaper.

The Feria de Cali began! Between December 25 and 31 the World Capital of Salsa welcomes visitors to one of the most important Colombian festivities. Since 1957 was born the also called Feria de la Caña (Cane Fair), Rumba Fair or Salsa Fair in one of the main Colombian urban centers.

Rumba is a cultural element of enjoyment, a moment almost so near to a philosophical style of life. Rumba is carnival, but also fair and parties, going to disco and meeting in the beach at the side of a picó.
