The hopes of many of a solution to the Colombian-Venezuelan diplomatic crisis in the UNASUR chancellors summit in Quito reach nothing in concrete. Things remained strictly at the same point of July 22 when the Colombian government denounced before OAS the presence of guerrilla camps in the Venezuelan territory with the consecutive denial of Caracas. There was only the compromise of a new summit of presidents.

Latin America could grow more than 4.1 percent this year, said Alicia Barcenas, executive secretary of United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) in a report of AmericaEconomia last weekend over the World Economic Forum in Cartagena de Indias.

Barcena said that it can be predicted thanks to the good results of Mexico and the maintenance of good fiscal and monetary stimuli.

The 2009 ranking of the best schools of economy in the region measured three dimensions: actions in the support of social labor, the size in the number of graduates and the professional success reached by its more outstanding past pupils.

Lula and Obama, Latin America and USA

For many observers the meeting of Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Washington with US president Barack Obama was the first important encounter among US and Latin America during the government of the new president at the White House. Undoubtedly, Lula became one of the most representative political leaders of the region and his statements in Washington show clearly what the Latin America of the new century wants from US and wants from itself.

President Lula asked Obama that the relation between US and the southern region of the Western Hemisphere should be more under a frame of equal cooperation, rather than a role of watch. He asked also an approach of Washington to Venezuela, Cuba and Bolivia, the nations that have been critics to the American policies in the last decade due to their socialists governments.

The former governor of the State of Meta, Alan Jara, was released by Farc, according to the promise of that guerrilla. Jara was kidnapped by Farc on 15th July 2001 when he was inaugurating a bridge in Lejanias town, Meta. He was with some members of the United Nations. He said that he had to cross for days the then demilitarized area of Caguán. Then, he was interviewed by Jorge Briceño Suárez, known as Mono Jojoy, who told him that he was in the list of politicians to be interchange with the government. Jara said in his first press conference that it is urgent to follow a humanitarian interchange in order to get the release of all hostages.

Vale (Companhia Vale do Rio Doce), the mining Brazilian company, is going to buy the Colombian Argos, according to a communicate in Sao Paolo. The largest logistic operator in Brazil and the second-largest mining company of the world, will buy the 100% of shares of the largest mining Colombian company, Argos, for 300 million of dollars.
