The Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá that was founded in 1967, is in China and Italy this month to celebrate Christmas. Major Alonso Salazar makes lobby in Spain to present Medellín as the next headquarters of the 7th Ibero-American Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism 2010. Japan improved its advisory over visits to Colombia, according to the official site Colombia is passion! Six Colombian states were scored number One by the Japanese government. It means that they are considered safe to visit by Japanese tourists: Atlántico, Cundinamarca, Santander, Sucre, Boyacá, Bolívar and Risaralda. (more…)

I’ve been retired from urban policing for four years, yet still feel actively engaged in the issues that confront police officers. I follow local and national police issues and I am still fascinated by individual and group behavior.
A research leaded by groups of citizens with the support of some corporations and newspapers, evaluated results in Medellín in questions of security, services, education and other aspects of the Colombian metropolis during the current year. The results show for example that the city has a backward in the fighting against criminality in comparison with 2008 numbers. The publication of the study that is called ‘Medellín, cómo vamos’ (How we are), produced already debates in the city and changes in the administration of Major Alonso Salazar. (more…)
Simón Vélez, the Colombian architect who became internationally famous for his structures in bamboo, has been appointed to receive the 2009 Prince Claus Award next 16th December 2009. The € 100,000 award is scheduled at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam. (more…)
The Gloria Vessel, the marine national emblem of Colombia, arrived last Sunday in Circular Quay, Sydney and will sail for Papeete, the capital of Tahiti (French Polynesia) next Thursday. The vessel will return to Cartagena de Indias in November.

Tourism to Colombia grew 10 percent during the first semester of the year, while in the world it fall 8 percent, according to Cotelco, the Colombian Association of Hotels. The statement was done by Jaime Alberto Cabal, president of the hotels’ association and published by Dinero Magazine. More than 60 thousand foreign visitors have entered the Colombian territory during the first six months of 2009, much more than last year at the same period. (more…)
