The Constitutional Court is near to give its verdict over the possibility of another reform to open the way for a third reelection of President Uribe. I can guess that it will be possible and I can guess that President Uribe will run again for a third period at the Nariño House. An unpopular opposition, a very fanatic Uribista party, the obsession of President Hugo Chávez for Colombia and the fear for the return of the chaotic situation of Colombia before 2002, will play a very important part in the decision of most Colombians. The fearful AH1N1 virus of swine flue, affected Colombia in a low level this year, according to the National Institute of Health in a report to the media.
Juan G. López, director of that official institute, said to Caracol Radio that the virus affected in the country especially women and young adults. It was reported in almost all the Colombian regions. (more…)

Surely worst than the long Colombian conflict, it is the reality of its street children in the biggest cities. The Gamín (street boy in Colombian idioms), became almost a traditional character. Even if some people and groups complain of the lack of more definitive projects to end the problem of unprotected children in the Colombian streets, it is possible to find a good list of institutions, private and officials, doing something. The problem stands in the same conflict. Only the growing number of displaced farm families, fleeing from war-zones and taking refuse in the cities, is a definitive source of children on the streets with all its consequences. (more…)

This week Facebook was news in Colombia: the 14th Judge of Bogotá ordered the arrest of a student of prestigious university Jorge Tadeo Lozano. Nicolás Castro Prestelt created a group in the popular social network that he called ‘Me comprometo a matar a Jerónimo Alberto Uribe, hijo de Álvaro Uribe’ (I commit myself to kill Jerónimo Uribe, son of Álvaro Uribe). He promoted also another group with the title ‘No reelijas la rata que mata’ (Do not reelect the rat that kills).

For many people Piedad Córdoba is a traitor to the country. She is friend of Hugo Chávez, a sympathizer of Farc guerrilla and an opponent to the most popular president of the last 50 years in Colombia. For others, the Senator is the icon of courage, commitment, progressive ideas and the door to peace. For Oslo she was one of the most likely contenders to the Nobel peace prize. A court of Bangkok rejected this weekend the dossier that Colombia presented to favor the extradition of the presumed Russian drug and arms dealer Viktor Bout to the United States. The Thai judge alleged that the request was out of term, but included in the American appeal a complaint of Bout, known as the Merchant of Death. (more…)

A criminal gang known as Los Cucarachos is the first suspect of the massacre of 12 persons of the Awa people of last August 26. It is the conclusion of the Technical Investigation unit (CTI) and published by El Espectador. Miguel Guasalusán Guanga, Danial Guasalusán Rodríguez and Fredy Cortez García are the possible assassins, according with the police department. Few days after the massacre, the Prosecutor arrested Miguel Pai in Putumayo. Pai is an Awa himself and a member of another gang: Los Rastrojos. (more…)
