The Colombian singer is in the list of best original songs for the film “Love in the Time of Cholera” with ´Despedida´. The song was composed for the film that was based in the Gabriel García Márquez’s  novel and was produced by Scott Steinford. The movie was shot in Cartagena de Indias. With Despedida Shakira entered in the list of the bests for the Golden Globe to be celebrated in Berverly Hills next Sunday 13th January 2008, just nine days before the prizes of the Academy.

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarat Ripoll, was born in Barranquilla on February 2, 1977 and she is one of the most popular singers, composer and producers of pop-rock from Colombia.

Her family is of Arab-Lebanon origin and her name, Shakira, means “full of grace”. She started her path to fame during the 80´s and in 2001 was well known around the world for her album ‘Laundry Service’.

According to the United World Chart, Shakira has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. She is also two times Grammy winner and seven times Grammy Latino winner.
