The State Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, a map of the National Army of Colombia.
What the media of Colombia and Nicaragua said about the decision of the International Court of Justice of La Hague about the differences between both nations:

CM& La Noticia of Guatemala published today some articles and a video of the tv news El País, informing about the decision of the Court. The newspaper said that the Sanandresans welcomed the statement of the Court, “We have kept respect for the Colombian flag and we feel therefore Colombians”, said an island native to the Central America media. At the other hand, the newspaper said that the decision of The Hague gave to Nicaragua the possibility to wide its sea borders and it has an open question “Did Colombia lost? Did Colombia win?”

The Colombian newspaper El Tiempo said that Colombia and Nicaragua declared to be winners with the decision of The Hague Court on San Andrés and said that Nicaragua suffered a backup in its pretensions over the Archipelago, according to declarations of the Colombian Chancellor. At its side, the Nicaraguan Chancellor, Samuel Santos, said to the Colombian newspaper through a phone call from The Hague that the Court gave to Nicaragua the reason over the competence on the differences and added that the sentence lets open the matter to continue with the dialogues with Colombia as Latin American brother countries to resolve the differences that still on.

El Nuevo Diario of Nicaragua said that the sentence of the Court ended the pretensions of Honduras and Colombia and that the government of Managua declared itself satisfied over the sentence of the preliminary objections risen by Colombia. It mentioned also the declarations of the former Colombian presidents Cesar Gaviria and Ernesto Samper about the problematic effects of the judgment.

Caracol Broadcasting said that Colombia is ready to defend the sovereignty over the Roncador, Quitasuño and Serrana keys, according with what was said by president Álbaro Uribe who defended the legality of the Colombian possessions over the keys on solid documents and judicial historical tittles like the Royal Title of 1803 that gave the entire area of what is today the San Andrés and Providencia Archipelago. At his side, president Daniel Ortega asked to follow the decision of the Court.

BBC Mundo said that Bogotá and Managua were satisfied for the decision of The Hague Court and published some declarations of politics and officials from both countries. It said also that the territorial differences started when the Sandinist government during the 80’s declared that the 1928 Agreement was not valid because it was signed during the occupation of the USA to Nicaragua and it was the way USA paid to Colombia the fact of the “Separation of Panama”. The Court found that the 1928 Agreement was valid but even if it is clear about the sovereignty of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina to Colombia and Mosquitos Coast to Nicaragua, it was not clear over the dispute concerning sovereignty over the other maritime features like the cays of Roncador, Serranía and Quitasueños. The British media in Spanish published also the polemic declarations of the former presidents Cesar Gaviria and Ernesto Samper. Gaviria said that if the declaration of The Hague closed the matter over the sovereignty of the islands, it let open the differences over maritime delimitations. For Samper the decision was “bittersweet” because let open the problem.
